Upon receiving the Luis Bu\u00f1uel Award at the 51st edition of the Huesca International Film Festival, actress Aitana S\u00e1nchez-Gij\u00f3n, one of the most prominent names in the Spanish audiovisual industry, emotionally stated, “Luis Bu\u00f1uel is the main reference, the director we all look up to and who is embedded in our brain. He is part of our DNA, our genes, our blood. He is fundamental.”<\/p>\n

At the Teatro Olimpia in Huesca, surrounded by close friends such as drama actress Marta Poveda, philologist and writer Irene Vallejo, filmmaker Miguel Santesmases, and cinephile and writer Luis Alegre, S\u00e1nchez-Gij\u00f3n -who has participated in over 70 productions and received nearly thirty awards both in Spain and abroad- claimed “I can only tell you that I keep up the same enthusiasm, the desire to learn, curiosity, the feeling that I always have to be better, that I am not satisfied, and that I want to be a better actress to tell you better stories.”<\/p>\n

A few days before starting the shooting of Tierra Baja<\/em>, directed by Miguel Santesmases in Aragon, the actress stated that she hopes this new project will be another step in her quest for growth “and to embody this profession with even more truthfulness and passion, which for me never ends.”<\/p>\n

The Luis Bu\u00f1uel Award ceremony was hosted by Jorge Us\u00f3n and Carmen Barrantes, with Alfonso Palomares and Kike Lera bringing Luis Bu\u00f1uel and Carlos Saura from beyond for the attendees. “I have a racing heart; what has happened on this stage has exceeded any expectation, and it is very gratifying to see that as the years go by, your vocation is being fulfilled,” highlighted the award-winning actress.<\/p>\n

The film, theater, and television actress stated that she had received a “shower of love” within the framework of the award ceremony, which far surpasses “that infinite thirst for telling stories, for being that medium, that translator, for participating in that essence of civilization that theater represents, and for sharing, through my performances, the dreams, nightmares, ideas, humor, love, violence, everything that shapes us as a society.”<\/p>\n

Her filmography includes works by Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Forqu\u00e9, Fernando Fern\u00e1n G\u00f3mez, Gonzalo Su\u00e1rez, Imanol Uribe, Jaime Ch\u00e1varri, Adolfo Aristarain, Juan Jos\u00e9 Campanella, Luis Puenzo, Gabrielle Salvatores, Silvio Muccino, and Pedro Almod\u00f3var, and she has shared scenes with actors such as Olivier Mart\u00ednez, Gary Oldman, Christian Bale, Pen\u00e9lope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Denis Leary, Terence Stamp, and Virginie Ledoyen.<\/p>\n

The theater, another of her passions, has brought her important successes such as Miguel Narros’ A Puerta Cerrada<\/em> and Mario Gas’ Cat on a Hot Tin Roof<\/em> and The Maids<\/em>. She has played several times with Mario Vargas Llosa in The Arabian Nights<\/em>, Odysseus and Penelope<\/em>, La Verdad de las Mentiras<\/em>, and Los Cuentos de la Peste<\/em>, directed by Joan Oll\u00e9. In addition, she triumphed with the staging of Yasmina Reza’s God of Carnage<\/em>, directed by Tamzin Townsend, and shortly thereafter in the play Santo<\/em>, performed at Teatro Espa\u00f1ol and directed by Ernesto Caballero.<\/p>\n

She has also found great fulfillment in television.She stood out in her leading role in the adaptation of Leopoldo Alas Clar\u00edn’s novel La Regenta<\/em>, directed by Fernando M\u00e9ndez-Leite, bringing to life a tormented Ana Ozores.
