The Ventana Sur<\/a> audiovisual market will receive the Pepe Escriche Award from the 51st Huesca International Film Festival. The Argentine event is one of major hub for the Ibero-American industry\u00a0 with nearly 3,000 accredited, among which, more than 250 buyers and sellers from all over the world. According to Estela Rasal, director of the Huesca Festival,\u00a0 it is a benchmark for the entire Ibero-American industry, a demonstration of the potential and strength that this part of the world holds dear when it brings together and builds bridges between countries.<\/p>\n

The Pepe Escriche Award recognizes its work in promoting cultural understanding through cinema. This year’s award will be presented during the opening ceremony of the Huesca festival on June 9th. In addition to the award, Argentina’s designation as the “Country of Honor”<\/a> will be a major part of the festival’s program, with activities including a fusion of cinema and gastronomy featuring Argentine and local chefs, who will generate a gastronomic dialogue in which the products and the seventh art of each territory will merge, to offer a multisensory show for the spectators\/diners.<\/p>\n

Ventana Sur thus joins a list of distinguished personalities and institutions with this award, which includes the San Antonio de los Ba\u00f1os School, the Morelia International Film Festival, the Spanish Film Library, the Ibermedia program, the Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences of Spain, the Bergman Chair of the Autonomous University of Mexico, the Association of Women Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media (CIMA) or the Cervantes Institute.<\/p>\n

The Pepe Escriche Award<\/a> was established in 2009 as a tribute, and to perpetuate the memory of the founder of the Alto Aragonese event: Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Escriche, who promoted cultural ties between Spain and the rest of the world through cinema and culture. The trophy, the work of the sculptor and designer Isidro Ferrer (National Design and Illustration Award), is a knife whose blade represents a fragment of celluloid. Together with the Carlos Saura City of Huesca Award and the Luis Bu\u00f1uel Award, they make up the trio of tributes that each edition of the Festival awards to important names and entities of the seventh art.<\/p>\n

INTERNATIONAL INDUSTRY MEETING POINT<\/p>\n

Ventana Sur is the most important audiovisual content market in Latin America, a must-attend event for distributors and buyers in the international industry. Organized by the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA) and the March\u00e9 du Film – Festival de Cannes, it brings together different players in the audiovisual industry to promote the co-production, financing, and international distribution of Latin American content.<\/p>\n

Every year, the Buenos Aires event receives buyers and sellers from the five continents, as well as representatives of the most important international chains and platforms. Throughout the various sessions, business rounds are held with content producers, pitching sessions, and individual meetings, as well as round tables, specific activities for producers with projects in development, workshops, talks, and conferences on current and future topics.<\/p>\n

The event is divided into various sections: First Cut, Final Print, Blood Window, Animation!, Proyecta, Punto G\u00e9nero, SoloSeries, The Principle of Film, Maquinitas and DocSur, which are added to the activities and services offered, such as conferences, screenings, and Video Library.
